Merry Christmas

From the Holy Gospel according to Luke (2:8-14):

And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.

And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

  1. Linus, a perfect herald of the good news.

Dawn’s rosy fingers usher in the joyous day, 32 here and still, stars bright, frost sprinkled on the roofs.

  2. In the comments of a book review by Moe Lane:

    Dan B:
Blast, Lutherans, when gathered into groups, tend to be more concerned with when, exactly, are the adult beverages being being brought out. You have to love that about us, Lutherans never had any truck with that “prohibition” nonsense.

    Rob Crawford:
“Blast, Lutherans, when gathered into groups, tend to be more concerned with when, exactly, are the adult beverages being being brought out.”

Catholics, of course, have already found the bar and jimmied the locks.

    (I speak from experience.)

  3. Christ is Born!

Either I am raising well rounded, stable children who are loved and content or I am raising a future pysychopath. The Mrs and I have been up for an hour and only one of the three have been seen. The youngest awoke, went to the restroom, paused to look at whar Santa brought, exclaimed to noone in particular “Yep he came.”, and then went back to sleep.?!? When I was little, I would wake up at 0 Dark Thirty to see what Santa brought me.

  4. Morning everyone. I’m up early (for me, these days) and enjoying my coffee. Google has an unusually long animated doodle today, sort of a compendium of transportation methods for travelers heading home to their Christmas trees. Pet cats and a dog are featured.

  5. Upon seeing our place in daylight, it was indeed a white Christmas with substantial frost covering the pastures and exposed rooftops, sparkles aplenty in the early light.
A lovely gift. Thank you, Lord.

  6. Christmas is the eternal, undefeated counter narrative to tyranny, hatred, poverty, prejudice, chicanery, peevishness, and pessimism. When FDR and Churchill worshipped on Christmas Day 1941 in Washington at Foundry Methodist Church in the gloom of WWII, they robustly sang “O Little Town of Bethlehem,” with the affirmation and promise that “Yet in thy dark streets shineth the everlasting light; the hopes and fears of all the years are met in thee tonight.”

In his radio address to America the night before, Churchill foreshadowed this hymn by urging that on Christmas Eve “each home throughout the English-speaking world should be a brightly-lighted island of happiness and peace,” in anticipation of “a free and decent world.”

The Christmas story is the promise of ongoing and ultimate redemption for the whole world from all tragedy and evil. That promise is winsomely irresistible and will be celebrated forever, long after the skeptics, scoffers and scolds are long forgotten. -David Virtue

  7. Merry Christmas to all Hamsterites and this very special birthday!

Texmo – I thought I was going to have to wake the boyz myself this morning. They
didn’t get up til after 7am! Glad I was up and had coffee on. I don’t ever remember being the last one up as a kiddo myself…

White Elephant gift ready (it’s a garage sale item this year); my Christmas braid bread is ready – not as good as prev. years because I was late and didn’t get it baked before our 7 O’clock church service so it had an extra hour to rise – and it dried out too much on the 1st rise.

May all those traveling be safe on these roads today…

  8. Merry Christmas to all and a Happy New Year. 20 F here in the great white north. Have safe and happy day.

    And don’t eat too much.

  9. All Christmas festivities are over now, seems strange no plans on the day itself. An extra special Christmas Eve with Sweetie’s family, just one of those everything went awesome events. Not attributing at all mind you to the two year old Miss Shelby Rose really into the spirit this year. πŸ˜€

Well except for the poorly timed, highly anticipated presentation of the Frozen battery operated Jeep Grandma and Grandpa bought. Seems patience is key when dealing with the chillrens and they should be in the mood and flow of the events. She will love the Jeep eventually and Grandparents’ pride will be restored. πŸ˜€

    Merry Christmas to all y’all!

Good article, the core of which is that pushy people are an annoyance after a while, and aggressively pushy people invite and royally deserve rebuke and eventually get it. This is so especially when they are a tiny tyrannical minority trying to lord their (in their minds) superior ideals or beliefs over a huge majority of average folk whose tolerance level for this is finally exhausted. The subject in question can be just about anything, but the supreme ugliness comes when it involves wars over religion or politics.

The 2014 elections involved a battle of ideas, and the left lost bigtime. Unfortunately not everybody on the winning side chose to get the message this time.

A large portion of Islam is at war with the West, but too many nations are still only dimly aware of that. Some of the dimmest bulbs are in DC.

  11. Just want someone to assure me that when I get to the Pearly Gates that it won’t be held against me that I haven’t a clue what Frozen is, nor will recognize any songs from it. Whatever it is.

  12. I have this feeling that Frozen is something like Lion King, which I finally figured out a couple of years ago was some movie I never saw.

  13. Don’t remember penguins but could be some in an army or somethin, just a snowman who loves summer one very cold sister and another that is normal. We clear?

  14. We rented it and watched it to have some kind of clue. She was very excited when told we did. She knows the entire movie and every song by heart.

  15. And let me told you Christmas would’ve been some kinda disaster if she all the sudden moved on to something else.

  16. one very cold sister and another that is normal.

    I have three sister-in-laws. I can relate.

After twenty seven years I’m reasonably sure my wife is the normal one of the four.

    I think.

  17. Good morning Hamsters. And Happy Boxing Day if you happen to be a subject of Her Britannic Majesty.

Waiting for the next front to arrive heralded by a couple of days of rain. Currently 59 and gaining humidity here with a drop or two of mist trying to form. It’s a good day to avoid many retail establishments unless you like crowds.

  18. Happy Festivus Day. I was on duty with the Boss from 7 till 4 yesterday and am back at it this am.
I hope all the hamsters had joyous times wife fambily yesterday.

  19. We’re in the 12 days of Christmas that end on January 6 with Three Kings Day or Epiphany, the proper gift giving day in some traditions. And that makes a lot of sense rather than Christmas Day. Especially for those whose birthdays fall on December 24 or 25.

  20. Frozen? Heck, I’ve never watched any of the Godfather movies.

I’m not the only one? Whew. I’ve tried but just not interested. Flame on here, but another is Pulp Fiction. I have sat thru it but I do not get the iconic status it receives. But I was born without the “get it” gene.

  21. #33 M42: It is a cool push tactic. Sort of like the emperor is not wearing clothes. It is a sign of intelligence and self confidence to not fall for it.

    Whut? #33 wasn’t my post. πŸ™‚
Also, I have neither scuzz nor a beard. πŸ™‚
