An early morning Google search revealed about three dozen independent websites had posted this story. Apparently, not a single mainstream newspaper, magazine or wire service has reported on this letter. Messages left at the Lakeside Country Club pro shop for Jeff Cohen of the Houston Chronicle drew no response. We do want to report Jeffy hit a hole-in-one on February 1st though.
HOUSTON, TX – April 10, 2012.
49 former NASA scientists and astronauts sent a letter to NASA Administrator Charles Bolden last week admonishing the agency for it’s role in advocating a high degree of certainty that man-made CO2 is a major cause of climate change while neglecting empirical evidence that calls the theory into question.
The group, which includes seven Apollo astronauts and two former directors of NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston, are dismayed over the failure of NASA, and specifically the Goddard Institute For Space Studies (GISS), to make an objective assessment of all available scientific data on climate change. They charge that NASA is relying too heavily on complex climate models that have proven scientifically inadequate in predicting climate only one or two decades in advance.
H. Leighton Steward, chairman of the non-profit Plants Need CO2, noted that many of the former NASA scientists harbored doubts about the significance of the C02-climate change theory and have concerns over NASA’s advocacy on the issue. While making presentations in late 2011 to many of the signatories of the letter, Steward realized that the NASA scientists should make their concerns known to NASA and the GISS.
“These American heroes – the astronauts that took to space and the scientists and engineers that put them there – are simply stating their concern over NASA’s extreme advocacy for an unproven theory,” said Leighton Steward. “There’s a concern that if it turns out that CO2 is not a major cause of climate change, NASA will have put the reputation of NASA, NASA’s current and former employees, and even the very reputation of science itself at risk of public ridicule and distrust.”

I knew Walt Cunningham would be in there. Way to go guys! Thanks!
This is precisely the kind of thing one needs to pass on to the low iformation voters on thier Facebook pages.
The main reason they are low information is someone else choose the news they get.
Fine job of elevating the discourssion yesterday people, keep it up!

#5 OTL: I desperately hope that Romnuts doesn’t try to play the nice guy and get trampled by O and company. He needs to be specific and forceful about all the lies, hypocrisy and failures of this administration in addition to proposing real solutions to the explosion of government debt and expenditures, our sagging economy, our diminished standing in the world and the existential threat that Iran poses to Israel.

The election is his to lose. Sure hope he gets tough.
Black on white terrorism in Wisconsin.
The above story was found on Drudge, I wonder how many other “news” outlets will cover this in addition to the plethora of others in the same vein?
It is almost like the 0 and company want the racial tensions as high as possible to divert attention away from his dismal failures as POTUS. I think the odds of full blown race riots this summer (or sooner) are better than 50%. At this stage of the game, dictatorial martial law being imposed prior to the election are around 10% and rising, IMHO.

Great film.
There’s a new song out I just heard on the life of Christ, called On My Mother’s Side. Worth a listen.

#8 I hope that the vast majority of people in this country become galvanized with a single purpose: GET OBAMA AND HIS CREW OUT OF OFFICE! Any activity that does not support that end goal (like voting for Lyndon LaRouche or some other terd-party no chance in H3!! candidate) is the equivalent of throwing a temper tantrum and totally non-productive.
A black, American woman in a poor neighborhood, Sabina Loving, is laid off from her job in the financial sector. She decides to start up a tax service for the residents of her impoverished inner city area in Chicago. Trying to overcome the daunting obstacles thrown in her path by the City of Chicago and the IRS have led her to file suit in federal court against the U.S. Internal Revenue Service along with two other small business tax preparation companies. The oustanding Institute for Justice is assisting these entrepeneurial Americans in their struggle against The Man.

#13: This is way worse than shouting “FIRE” in a crowded theater, and is blatantly illegal. Why the perps depicted haven’t been arrested is a mystery, and it points to a violation of the 14th amendment, equal protection under the law. Can you imagine, just for a minute, if Limbaugh said on his program that we need to start hunting down the race baiting poverty pimps, the catterwalling and outrage from the LSM? The NBP is openly calling for murder of innocent white people, based on nothing but their race, and all we get from the LSM is crickets!

OTL: Here is a song for you in the same vein (sort of) as your #10.
Reading your screed it looks like you are the one throwing the temper tantrum.
I do not vote for anyone based on the likes of your fear mongering. Why should anyone listen to you when you give disclaimers that you do not especially care for Romney? So this tells me the wisest diecison for me is to see who the third party candidates are, look at their record and platform and vote for the person I think will BEST run this country.
So while you are chewing that, today, I am going to and collect some “OBSCENE PROFITS” and enjoy this beautiful day.
/Have Cuban Cigars Will Travel”
An interesting article in Newsweek regarding religion, politics and history (not trying to stir up anything and my standard disclaimer of contrition still applies).
Squeek: If what I am saying constitutes “fear mongering” it must be because you fear the idea of another 4 years of JugEars, and that would be wise. I just hope there are not too many like you who will put their personal principles over practicality and pragmatism. If you think anyone other than JugEars or Romnuts will be the next president after Jan 21 2013 then you simply are not being realistic. The only question that merits any consideration is which of those two do you least want in the office? I phrased it that way because I don’t think that anyone here really wants either. A vote for anyone but Romney fails to cancel out another vote for the socialist dictator; that may be a crap sammich but it is better than the cyanide sammich if JugEars gets re-elected.
While I do not particularly care for Romney, I absolutely detest and abhor Obama. In this election, like most in my lifetime, it is the choice between the lesser of 2 evils. You may detest that reality, but your dislike for the situation does not change the reality. As of this writing, there are no other viable candidates to be POTUS other than Jugears or Romney; no one else as of this writing has even a chance and that is the reality.

Howdy Hamsterousians! A beautiful day in the neighborhood!
Here’s a reminder for all you Fort Bendians, there will be another forum and candidate get-ta-know-ya meeting for the FB Sheriff election. It will be at Oakland Elementary School at Waterside Estates, south of Hwy 99 off Mason, Tuesday April 17, starting 6:30 p.m.
Ought to be good for more than a few laughs, considering all the stuff that certain candidates are putting forth.
This is something ST should go to, it would be worth the drive just for the entertainment!
The election itself is Tuesday May 29, near the Memorial Day weekend, so make arrangements for early voting if you are out of town.
Later, dudes and dudettes!

It looks like the scourge of Zimbabwe, Robert Mugabe is about to meet HIS MAKER. He took the breadbasket of Africa, Rhodesia, and turned it into the failed socialist latrine now known as Zimbabwe. He is responsible for the murder and starvation of thousands while he lived in opulent splendor. I do not want to be anywhere near him, in any way, on Judgement Day. To make matters even worse, for the people of that country:

We will have two major choices for President on the ballot on November 6, 2012. One candidate has a record of growing government bureaucracy, raising taxes, increasing spending and pandering to divisive elements in our society. The other candidate has a record of growing government bureaucracy, raising taxes, increasing spending and pandering to divisive elements in our society. One candidate has been declared by many to be a devotee of a non-Christian belief system. The other candidate is declared by many to be a devotee of a non-Christian belief system. One candidate offers balm for our misery in the form of assistance from the government. The other candidate offers balm for our misery in the form of assistance from the government. One candidate has opposed the Second Amendment. The other candidate has opposed the Second Amendment. One candidate has supported the killing of babies. The other candidate has supported the killing of babies.
This should be a very easy decision.
#19 O Tim – my only comment is that Sullivan probably would like us to believe that Jesus was a flaming homosexual.
#25 Timd: One candidate has an extensive history of rescuing failing companies and the other has never held a job in the private sector. One is a free market capitalist and the other is an avowed wealth restributionist socialist. Yes, the choice is easy, if not terribly palatable.
#26 n-s-b d:
I’ll have to read the article again. I don’t recall seeing that comment.

Good afternoon Hamsters. Another great start to the day with a cool 60 at 5:30 and now 79 with 37% humidity. Weather rumor is that a Pacific storm is winding up to arrive here sometime around Monday and bring significant rainfall with it. Hope so.
Only Mariposa was likely witness to our before dawn visitor on the patio, she peering out from the garden room at the scene. The visitor had jumped onto the edge of the lower fountain basin–or into it–and made quite a splash down the side and on the patio, then left wet footprints going toward and under a bench. Best guess is a racoon washing his dinner and getting a drink. The footprints seemed too large for a possum. Marisposa is not commenting, discreet kitty that she is.
Word is that Newt still intends to be in Tampa for the convention and wants to remain a conservative voice opposite Mitt. Our primary still gives us the opportunity to vote conservative at the top and incidentally deliver a poke in the eye to the party establishement. There are too many state and local races that need our participation to elect conservatives.
All is not lost, and engendering a hopeless feeling in conservatives is the prime motive of all the LSM stories. Not to fall for it. Laugh at them and deliver another whipping in our primary and again in November. Don’t Mess With Texas. And smile when you say that.
Bonecrusher
Let’s you and me get one thing straight right here, right now. I fear no man and unlike you I do not fear four more years of Obama. I bow the knee to no man, I do not have to. You on the other hand have already surrendered.
The problem in this country is more people do not follow their good conscience and good principle. What has a man got if he turns form the good principles that brings him through life.
What got us here is the same damnable fear mongering that you nauseatingly propagate on daily basis. You are so self absorbed that you have missed the entire point of this argument. I may or may not vote for Romney. You will never know. It is none of your business. But you DAMN sure are not going to convince me with your tact of demonizing and shaming me. In fact the crap you are spewing drives more people away than it brings in.
While I am the consummate cynic, I thank Simple Simon for reminding me that we have survived the likes of Jimmy Carter and others he mentioned. I believe we can survive this too. It may not be easy but by the grace and mercy of God almighty we can. BTW no matter who is president God is control. So I do not sweat it. I will do my civic duty as I see fit but not out of fear. That is your bailiwick not mine.

Pound sand Squawk. Nothing could be further from the truth. 4 more years of JugEars will cause rampant inflation and increased unemployment. Is it fear mongering if what is said is true.
Fear mongering would be saying that if we don’t bail out GM and Chrysler the whole economy will falter, which, I believe was false.
Actually, I agree with whomever it was last night who said that the protest votes (e.g., squack) won’t make a hill of beans difference in Texas because of the winner take all nature of the Electoral College vote allocation. New Jersey (as one example) is likely a very different story.
18 Seagull,
My idea of a perfect evening is the following: a good Cuban Cigar, 3-4 fingers of Famous Grouse, and a tawdry detective novel.
Sadly, I would have to get a note from the cardiologist to partake of the cigar and scotch. I have both, but they are only for looking. I love the smell of thick blue cigar smoke and I have been sketching a cigar smoking machine for years. It will do the puffing for me and fill the room with that exquisite odor.
The folks that complain about cigar smoke are from some other planet.
Simple
p.s. I am still going to vote for Santorum on primary day. November is just too far away to decide right now.
#36 simple
The Cubans screwed up their tobacco plantations after Castro took over because they no longer owned the land and had no real stake in it (see also ex-Rhodesia, Zimbob’s activities therein).
What you really want is Dominican or Honduran cigars grown from Cuban seed.
You also want a better firewater. If you go with a blend, try Johnnie Walker Green Label. Goes down real good. Good single malts include: Clynelish, Laphroaig, Lagavulin, most of the MacAllan’s, Highland Park, and Jura. A good bourbon also works very well with a good smoke.
The US Circuit Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit gets one exactly right (in disagreeing with its sister courts).
Blind hog, meet truffle.
Bunsonburner
While the other cigars are great, if you can get “real” Cuban cigars from the old masters, IMO, there ain’t nothing better. Since I had to give up the firewater years ago I have no opinion on drink. Though back in the day I enjoyed a good bourbon or German Brandy from Rüdesheim called Asbach Uralt. Not the best brandy in the world but pleasing to my taste buds just the same.
Heh,
I burned out my tastebuds so many years ago fine drink would be wasted on me anyway.
Simple
I would be proud to fire up a stogie in your honor just the same. Would rather have you around than lose ya to a moment frivolity. You keep listening to that cardio guy.
I too will prolly vote for either Johnson or Santorum in the first rounds. November is still a long time off for me to make a set in stone decision while I am pretty certain what I am going to do anyway.

Has anyone heard of the “hit” US comedy “I just want my pants back”?
Apparently, the Pommies over here think there is one with that title, although I have never heard of it.
#41 Pyro: you mean like this kind?
Those would indeed be the best, although they are getting to be quite rare due to their age and perishability.
The Texas Cigar Company on I45 S. near the loop has actual Cuban dudes rolling cigars, which is a reasonable approximation. They love them their beisbol. I went in to buy a buncha smokes for a bachelor party several years ago and they were in there rollin’ ceegars and listenin’ to the Astros (closest they could get to actual beisbol, I suppose) on the radio.

That would be the vast majority of them. So, if you or anyone else decides that it is necessary for government to treat those human beings unequally, and purposefully disadvantage them in 1000 ways, it is upon you to prove the necessity of doing so.
I don’t think you can.
Bob420: about “gayness:” I think the issue here is keeping one’s sexuality private. The flaming homosexuals aren’t satisfied with their deviant (IMHO) behavior, they insist in shoving it in the face of those who find such behavior abhorrent and then demand acceptance. If the behavior at a typical gay pride parade were to happen during any “non-homo-specific” event among heterosexuals (excluding Mardi Gras usually), they would be arrested -SO WHY THE DOUBLE STANDARD?
You’re the one who’s bring all that up. I simply answered your question.
Apparently, when we don’t give you the answer you want or assume we want to say, you impute upon us that answer so you can make your point, such as it is, that we really do – even if we choose not to ‘admit’ it.
#38 WB
I meant to link to that ruling yesterday. Excellent result from the clinically nuts Ninth Circus Court of Appeals and shockingly, it was an en banc opinion.
Not much point in answering, for two reasons:
1. Wagonburner answered sufficiently close to what I would have said and,
B. You don’t want an honest response. You simply want any answer so you can find a way to say NIGYYSOB. And if the answer doesn’t afford you an easy way to do that, you simply distort the answer to your liking and apply the aforementioned NIGYYSOB anyway as demonstrated in #47.
There must be a 1000 ways to disadvantage a homo…
Yeah, that would be a fun one to make up new lyrics to.
#52…………………..ummmmmmmmmmm “Slip out the back Jack?”
There’s lots but I can’t post ‘em.
#48 Asserting the notion that all people should be treated equally under the law is not a double standard. If you think otherwise, prove your case. Show the benefit and the necessity of doing so with real facts. (Hint, the defendants in the CA Prop 8 case chickened out when the time came to do just that.) Also, I’ve been to both Mardi Gras celebrations and Gay Pride events. Have you? Guess which one was more tame. Do you desire that government make the latter illegal? If so, why?
#49 You fell far short of answering my question. I bring it up only because you and others here, as well as most of the republican party, insist that it’s necessary for government to treat people unequally and disadvantage them. I disagree, and only ask that you support your desire to empower everyone’s government to discriminate based on your personal perceptions with fact instead of the typical fictional justifications I see.
#51 Hamous, I vow never to apply that acronym to you. I ask of you only what I ask anyone who agrees with you on this subject.

Why do they feel it necessary to impose there will on me? i ain’t done squat to them yet they seek extra constitutional, protections and privileges that affect me and my pocketbook.
#55: Do you remember this incident that happened this year? Public lewdness/public sex is illegal, and it should be REGARDLESS OF WHO IS ENGAGING IN IT. I am not for taking away rights from anyone, and I am absolutely opposed to granting special rights/privileges for someone because they happen to be gay, female or non-caucasian. There, that should clear it up.
Zimmerman to be charged with 2nd degree murder. Good luck getting an unbiased jury.
Bonecrusher #48;
Yup. That includes portraying Jesus as gay or a “flaming homo” as Hamous said. These people’s deviance is also an obvious psychosis.
#59;
Regarding second degree murder:
Second Degree Murder Definition
I do not see how Zimmerman’s actions were anything of this sort. He was attacked and he broke no law following Martins. Zimmerman’s arrest seems nothing more than political correctness and a lack of care for the law.
Go pound sand, Bubba.
#59 – IMHO it’s more like GOOD LUCK seating ANY jury that will be considered unbiased in the ever slanted court of public opinion bolstered by the Lamestreamer Media
#63 Katfish: If he can’t get an unbiased jury, the case has be thrown out.
The prosecution of Z, like Darren said, is an attempt to keep the lawless from committing more lawless deeds. Unfortunately, the upcoming “not guilty” verdict (which is what will happen if/when the most unbiased group is seated and they hear all the facts) will only result in more race riots and violence. How about the Justice Department vigorously prosecute the terd-nozzles who put out the bounty on Zs head? How about the Justice Department vigorously prosecuting those black yutes thumping on the crackers just cuz theyz white?
Imagine that.
Speaking of gays, there’s a lesbian couple who moved in right in front of our house. They each have children from previous relationships, I think marriages. Since there’s another gay couple at the end of our cul-de-sac who are males, the fix should seem easy. But regarding the lesbians, the oldest girl in the houshold is about the same age as Oldest Daughter and they have become friends. One ofthe ladies asked Oldest Daughter if we were mormon. She said yes. The lady said she could tell by the peope who visit us. It must be the clan cut image or something because the missionaries have visited us only once since this couple moved in and once in a while members show up in a shirt and tie but the vast majority of times it is street clothed visits. Afteter confirming we were Mormon, the lady said she was too but no longer attends. Oldest Daughter asked why not (good missionary work there) and the lady replied for “personal reasons”. Oldest daughter said she could come to church with us anytime. (Excellent missionary work). The lady said she wants to return to church but wants one accepting of her lifestyle. While she’s always welcome to come with us to church I don’t think there’s too much a chance of “accepting” her lifestyle, at least not in the manner she seemed to be seeking.
My first-hand experience witnessing Mormons and gays is that gays are loved just as much as heteros. We’ll see what turns out but one thing’s for sure, nobody needs to wonder if Mrs. Darren and I are going to disparage them or seek to treat them as anything less than as equals.
#56 Shannon. Thank you.
Mrs. Darren got her first sonogram today. Baby hasa tiny head, arms, and legs. The baby is still too young small to determine a gender. The heart and everything else seemed OK. Mrs. Darren told the doctor about the Lithium she was on but the doctor said there’s really no worries since she was not using it long-term during the pregnancy. I posted before that she immediately got herself off that stuff as soon as she found out she was pregnant and the doctor expressed no worries with the medications she was perscribed in place of Lithium.
It was destermined that the baby is two weeks younger than what Mrs. Darren had thought which actually made her relieved. She had though we got pregnant from carelessness but it turns out she was in a safe zone and thus credits God for wanting us to have this baby. I agree with her and I base that on being prayerful regarding having anoyther baby and from this pregnancy.
God’s will be done.
Shannon #56;
Amen to that!
Not in my sandbox. He would want to go into the deep end and i am NOT sure he can swim.
61 Darren,
You left out the the depraved indifference portion of Florida’s 2nd Degree Murder requirement. This means you are guilty if you engage in a course of action or set into action events that will lead to a person’s death.
The Neighborhood Watch’s policies clearly stated “observe and report” and firearms were not to be carried.
Z was told repeatedly to let the local authorities handle the “suspect” by the dispatcher.
I am not so sure that he will skate on this one. It will depend largely on what evidence that the prosecutor has to counter his affirmative defense of he was being attacked.
In any case he will get an expensive ride thru the criminal justice system.
Simple
Darren,
Glad to hear your positive news from the baby’s checkup. Hope all continues well. In a couple years, you will have another little turtle or chicken drawn in your family Christmas cards!
Simple;
Despite how ambiguous that read is, that’s an important part indeed. Thanks for sharing.
mharper #72;
Cute, thanks. But it’ll be this December; not in a couple of years. Baby will simply get a “little help” from mom or Dad.
Darren: Congratulations on a positive report from the Dr.
Mayhaps from a sibling?
57 Squawkbox, welcome to the game.
Please explain how expecting to be treated by our government as it treats any other committed couple amounts to ‘imposing’ their will on you. Please do list the specific extra-constitutional privileges they seek. As far as ‘ain’t done squat to them’ if you are one of the fearful mob that flocked to the polls in 2006 to empower our government to hurt these people, you’ve done far more than ‘squat’ to these human beings, and I maintain that you and others did so without rational cause or justified benefit.
I’ll give you an ‘A’ for originality on your latter statement. I would love to hear exactly how same sex couples are affecting you and especially your pocket book. Would you care to hear how much the inequality that you apparently support costs same sex couples, especially those who are parents? I have numbers. Do you?
58 Bonecrusher, No I don’t remember.
Here we agree. Arrest people that do that, regardless of sexual orientation. Nobody is asking that it be any different. Using such incidents to justify needless discrimination to a far larger number of people who do not behave illegally is not only a fallacious argument, it is simply absurd. Certainly you can offer a better argument in favor of your support of discrimination than that. Or can you?
#66 Darren, thanks for the beer spew.
Who gave you the right to ‘fix’ other peoples relationships? If that’s in the constitution I apologize for overlooking it. If you want to do your new neighbors a favor, suggest that they check out one of the Episcopal, Methodist, or UU congregations that sincerely welcome all people and feel neither compelled nor specially entitled to judge their relationship or ‘fix’ it for them.
Huhuh…. you first. You tell me why I must be threatened with a hate crime etc and yes they are effecting my pocketbook initially with their lawsuits that any government fights has to pay for with my money.
I want to see those “1000 ways” in which they’re “purposely disadvantaged”.
Yup, that too.
God did.
You know you shouldn’t be drinking beer ad blogging at the same time. Seems to me, bob, that you’re the one disparaging here. First, I was being facetious. Yes, I find the lady’s choices as wrong but so are many of my choices. The latter group are the ones I focus on. Second, who mentioned the constitution in anything I typed? I shared a social experience. Nothing more. Third, who even remotely hinted that I’m actively seeking to remedy a situation by force?
As for religion, they are free to seek what they want. Nobody’s going to stop them.
#74 Darren
Ok, I thought your kiddos had to do their own artwork, but I see you are willing to fudge that rule a bit.
1) They are not all Methodist
2) They are not all Episcopalian
3) They are all my neighbors
Bob will have to fill you in on the remaining 997 ways.
Shannon, why have you “deactivated” your FB account? Wasn’t working for you? Or did The Timeline get ya?
They do and they always have. When they were babies however they always got a “little help” from Mom or Dad. But as Bonecrusher pointed out, this baby will have siblings begging for a chance to help.
Oh, I forgot that the gays are not all UU. That may be an advantage however.
I think my NOBAMA themes on FB are driving away more foreigners that I know through work. S’alright with me if they can’t take it, I hope they are not able to vote here anyway. They aren’t my reason for those shares and postings. Amazingly, I do seem to be reaching some of the women I know in my neighborhood.
They are all your neghbors?

I’m FB-free.
Does that make me more -or less- unemployable?
#87;
Of course. Mrs. Darren and I are good to them despite the fact that we wanna “fix” them.
#77 Squawkbox, I don’t think hate crime laws are necessary either. But that’s a different and much broader topic, ain’t it? Let me know when you actually get charged with one, mmkay? I’ll be there for ya!
This is ridiculous:
In the first place, there would be no need for lawsuits if a mob of prejudiced social authoritarians had not flocked to the polls and caused measurable harm to people for no rational reason. In the second place, the most high profile gay equality related lawsuit was not defended with taxpayer money. But most ridiculous is you trying to blame the cost of any lawsuit upon the people that are harmed by the irrational, harmful, and unnecessary laws that you support. It’s a nonsensical exhibition of circular logic, and I think you can do better, maybe.
#78 Hamous, you not so cleverly dodged my request for you to provide rational reasons for your support of needless discrimination, and now have the gall to ask me list the “1000″ ways? OK, No problem.
Keep in mind that the list is only DOMA related discrimination at the federal level. I can cite state laws that are even worse in their impact on people and families. Again, can you, will you, cite a rational reason for the need for either?
#80 Congratulations Darren! You get a gold star for being the only person here honest enough to fess up your real reason for supporting needless discrimination of people that pose you no threat. I think it’s still irrational to feel empowered to harm other based on your personal faith held beliefs, but honesty counts for a lot with me. Good job.
Yes, I knew you were being a bit facetious. But I also suspect that you would like it if no one was permitted by government to be gay, and no one was permitted by government to blog while drinking a beer or smoking a doob, and no one was permitted by government to enjoy sex outside of marriage. Too bad.
Also, I did not indicate that ALL Methodist and Episcopal churches welcomed homosexual people. Some do, some don’t. The number that do are growing. They’re still sorting that out among themselves. Most UU congregations/fellowships do. But then, they also welcome cannabis smokin beer-bloggin hippie atheists like me. Of course, we welcome Mormons too!
