Here’s an extra one for you. This is from the series Firefly and the former was from “da’ moobie” Serenity. Watch them both if you can. Keep the fast forward option ready for Firefly though. That’s my recommendation.

Forget about it. He’s done. He had his peak and it is not coming back. He’s not goingto win iowa or New Hampsire and definitely not Virginia. And basing a possible victory in Virginia based on a lawsuit which Rick Perry had no business filing in the first place, is not evidence of Newt being far from done.
Rick Perry Files Lawsuit To Get On Virginia Primary Ballot
Getting the federal government to control a state ballot? Good grief Perry. I thought you were running on a conservative platform.
Let’s face the facts folks. The only way an R can win the Presidency is by being a weak spine, milch toast, slightly right leaning, smooth talking, Hollywood actor looking individual. The demographics just won’t allow for old fashioned, conservative, American, rugged individualism type folks. Enter Mitt, stage right. No other options I’m afraid. It’s the age old story of attracting 50.1% of that undecided, disinterested, middle of the road, sometimes voter. The rabid dogs on both sides will always vote the same, but the undecided control the final outcome. Sad but true.
I’ll remind you of that in about 8 weeks. Anybody who is polling at 30% in the third state and 43% in the fourth isn’t done. I think all this stuff in the news about him being done might be an attempt at self fulfilling prophecy by a wishful thinking media and establishment that doesn’t want to see him as the candidate. The problem with that for them is that they’ve lowered expectations so much that if he finishes second or third in Iowa, it will be seen as a comeback. He’s fallen in NH and IA, but those voters have gone to Dr. Kookoobananas—–and they’re reading busy reading newsletters right now. Most folks are just thinking that they will jump from Kookoobananas to Santorum, but that’s not a lock. The Holidays have screwed up polling enough so that any real accurate prognostication for Iowa’s caucus in 5 days can be made—even if their system wasn’t as screwed up as a soup sammich.
Because of proportional allocation of delegates, any candidate who consistently takes 20-30% of the vote will likley stay in the race. Newt’s enough of a pol to know that holding on to 10-15% of the delegates at the convention is worth something if no candidate wins outright, and right now, Romney’s not polling well enough to assume he’s going to do that.
And where do you think Bachamann and Perry voters will go to? Those voters didn’t pick them because of how similar they were to Romney. There’s buzz about Santorum, but nothing showing up in the polls so far. If he doesn’t do extremely well in Iowa, he’s not going to do well enough in NH, SC, and FL to make voters—and donors—flock to him.
Last week, Thomas Sowell wrote a column that did everything but come right out and say that he’s endorsing Newt.
This week, he comes right out and says it.
And I’ll note here that there were many Republicans who heaved a sigh of relief when Hillary Clinton lost the Democrat nomination because they thought beating Obama would be a cakewalk.

Return to the Arts?? I’d say these examples are art with a very small “a”.

As far as Perry’s suit in VA is concerned, I doubt the VA Republican Party will put up much of a fight. This is the second time they’ve been to court over thier petition rules, and they’re pretty embarassed by the fact that the guy who is polling nearly twice as high as his closest competitor didn’t make the ballot. There are guys in charge in that party who want to stay inh charge—which is difficult when 30% of the people they rely on to keep them there are pizztoff at them.
Well it appears that the santa that killed the family in Grapevine on xmas day was an adherent of the religion of peace.
Oh, those mooslime hijinks.
This article on Drudge raises some interesting questions.
Headline: In Washington area, African American students suspended and expelled two to five times as often as whites
questions:
1) What is the proportion of whites to blacks in the schools of this statistical analysis? This crucial fact was not revealed in the article.
2) What are the primary reasons for suspension and expulsion?
3) Are the rules “color blind” yet one group see fit to ignore those rules?
4) Is it possible that in America, among this socio-economic class, that there is no living history of work or responsibility or basic discipline within the individual families? To phrase differently, is this the product of a culture of generational welfare dependency and single parenthood?
5) If yes to #4 above, would it be reasonable to say that particular culture is inherently defective and destructive to civilized society as a whole? I say yes. Now the question is how do we change this defective culture and convert it into that which is beneficial to its members individually (and currently it is not beneficial) and to society as a whole?
My goal in this post is to try to completely as space/time allows identify and clarify a chronic social problem. Have I missed some facet of the issue? If yes, please add to the list. After the list is complete(ish), let’s put our collective intelligence together and come up with a workable solution.

Ooogo Chavez questions whether the US gave him cancer.
Hey Ooooogo; I guess the fact you are a scum sucking socialist punisher of the people and your behavior is drawing the wrath of God for your crimes here on Earth never occurred to you.
Robert B. Reichchchchchchchchchchchch thinks that Hitlery will be the new VP and Joe “the disptick” Biden will be SOS.
What could possible be more of a foreign policy disaster than having “hair plugs” as SOS? Let’s think about it, has that moron ever been correct about anything? Can you think of anyone who has made more glaring gaffes than he?
As an aside, Reich had this to say:
He calls Rs regressive?? I guess by that he means not “progressive” as in left wing, moonbat-schizzle crazy, fails every time it is tried socialist, right?
Perhaps she has made her money and wants to vamoose before she gets scrutinized any more?

#15 TT: I think she sees her ship of state sinking and is going to flee like the rat she is. Personally, I think congressionally, that 2010 was just the fat lady clearing her throat for the D slaughter that is coming. In the Senate, of the 33 or so that are up for re-election over 20 are Ds, if the Rs can hold on to their seats and take 6 – 10 of those away from the Ds we will have super majorities in both houses; more than enough to try and convict a whole bunch of, hopefully, ex-politicians and beaurocraps.
This from the comments made me laugh:
I think the East Virginia GOP have lost their collective minds.
#17 – pfpfpfpfpftttttttttttttt – how could those IDJITS possibly enforce that nonsense?
(without getting their asses handed to them in court that is)
Its looking like the folks who blamed Newt and Jimmy Dick for not being able to get on the ballot might be slightly misinformed.
Could it be that Virginia Republican politics might be infested with Establishment Republicans and former staff members kicked out of Congress un the past couple of elections?
It’s what happens when petty people get into a position of power. The party leadership is typically composed of those who care enough to work for what they see as the right path to take. Mixed in with them (and often overlapping) are people who are serious control freaks who have to have things done their way and only their way.
When the control freaks who think the same way get into enough positions of power, they completely take over the apparatus of the organization. This control will continue until enough other people decide that the CF’s have caused enough harm that they must be dealt with. This usually happens after a substantial bit of time has passed and things have gotten really bad because uprooting the established leadership is difficult because they control the rules.
When the CF’s are finally thrown out, the organization is found to be a shell of what it was and more time and effort must be spent rebuilding it. Then the cycle repeats itself.
This is not unique to politics. How do you think the HOA’s get to be so nazi-like?
Why did the phrase “Joe Straus supporters” just pop into my head?
Hey guys, I wanted to pop out of lurking to ask if anyone knows any IT professionals who are looking for a job. I am looking to hire some more staff for installation, training and implementation roles. It does require significant travel. If you know anyone who is interested, drop me a note at my username at gmail and I can send more information.

Good to see ya’ again!
Don’t know of anyone, but I’ll keep my ears open.
There’s an IT guy here everybody would like to get rid of—-
Tedtam, I have actually been thinking about inviting you or hamous out to the singles Bible study I lead. I have this crazy idea of getting people from other denominations to come and give a talk about the doctrines and traditions where we agree and where we have differences. One of the things we have been discussing this past year is denominationalism and the strains it causes in viewing all of the Church as a single entity, but most of my group thinks it is something they can’t do anything about. I thought maybe having some people from other denominations come by and share we could open up opportunities to act more as a Christian family.
You really want one of us wacky Catholics?
We need someone to balance out us crazy nondenominational Bible church evangelicals.
#25 Duhmoose
Sounds interesting. I actually attended a non-denominational Bible study group at my office building for a while (it was my first experience with a Bible study, actually). I warned the leader that I was Catholic, that it was my first Bible study, and I’d probably have a lot of questions. He invited me to ask all I wanted.
After a while, he began calling me “a blessing” to the group, as in (after I asked yet another question about his interpretation) “You are such a blessing!” I just kept on asking questions.
And then his buddy said I was going to Hell because I was using a Catholic Bible. He would actually follow me down the hall, into the elevator, and as far as my office, trying to “save” me. I set him straight after a few weeks of his harassment, and he never bothered me again.
The second Bible study was one I was invited to attend at an Episcopalian church (in a black neighborhood – I was the token white in the group). We had the best time together! I truly enjoyed being there with those people.
I finally attended a Bible study at my church for a while. The studies always ended with a big political discussion.
So, you can see that I’ve had experience with different groups and Bible studies!
I come from a long line of “crazy nondenominational Bible church evangelicals” and Baptists.
Just be careful with Lutherans.
They’re a bunch of terrorists.
You do know what the one thing in common to all of those was, don’t you?
Yah. But we took thier hats and blankets away a long time ago and thus rendered them powerless.
Fixdit 4ya
Noted domestic terrorist at the height of his power (man on far right). Note headgear.
Same domestic terrorist as powerless prisoner. Note new location of head gear.
I rest my case.
Oddly enough, most of my Dad’s side of the family are Lutherans and my current roommate, who also attends my church, is a back sliding Presbyter who went to Wheaton. Those Reformed groups are just strange.
Catholics going to Bible Study.
What is this world coming to?
One of sarge’s favorite papers sez Ron Paul is truly dangerous.
I’m not sure I’d go that far, but I do think he’s a nutter.
The comments are pretty funny. A whole bunch of
Ronulansnuts going apoplectic that anyone would dare criticize The One Man Who Can Save The World As We Know It in such a way that it reinforces the points in the editorial. They also sound like Obama supporters, only nuttier and crazier. They think that Ron Paul would be able to cure everything that ails this country by simply snapping his fingers, even though he has actually gotten extremely close to nothing passed during his almost 15 years in Congress.
Careful, or we’ll learn to make lovely Jello molds and bring them to social events. And even get them in the proper liturgical color for the season.
Wow. Three “Establishments” and two “Joe Straus’s” in one day, and it’s only half over!
And the Lutherans are getting uppity!
vis:
I’ll join in and set you both straight.
duhmoose;
In all due seriusness, I do hope your Bible study group goes well. Hope your group learns much and *does* much to come closer to Christ.
Yep, I believe everything he says:
/sarc off
Darren, we have been going strong for about 2 1/2 years now. The hardest thing is getting them off their duffs to actually put feet to their beliefs. I am a strong believer that if your actions don’t back it up, you might not have the faith you think. It is kind of funny being the “daddy” of the group when I am only 35.
I just found out a friend of mine suffered a heart attack on Christmas Day. He’s just down the street, so I made sure he knew to call me if he needs anything.
Man, that had to suck. Christmas Day. He just got back from the hospital. He’s started a whole new set of resolutions already – exercise, lose weight, etc.
funny from my inbox:
duhmoose #44;
I completely agree with you. And I know I struggle to do things I know I should. Just gotta keep striving to do better.
Keep up the good work, duhmoose.
I can’t believe that in this group of powerful thinkers no one has taken up the challenge in #10 above.

The question is why the disparity? What are the root causes and how do we, as a society fix the root causes that create the problem?
Let’s see if we can think outside the pc box.

#53 Sarge: I don’t see a reason why blacks are 2-5 times more likely to be suspended/expelled than whites when they are only 14% greater in population.
Actually, there are 54 blacks for every 40 whites. The article does not mention other races, so out of every 100 people, we’re dealing with 94. That means that blacks form 57 1/2% of the population being compared are black and 42 1/2% are white, a disparity of 15%.
The article does not mention whether or not the comparison was made for only public schools of for all high school students, to include home schoolers and private schools, but I suspect the data is only available for public schools.
With 80% of the public school population in DC being black, its natural that there would be more black students expelled than the 25% of the population that is made up of all other races.
The white population in DC public schools is about 9%
So now we’re talking a population of 89, 80 of whom are black—or about 90%. That’s about 10 black students for every white student.
It might be that the blacks tend to be more concentrated in settings where nobody would be likely to succeed. If they happened to be in the roughest, most gang-ridden schools, it would seem that more of them would turn into discipline problems.
So, Bonesy—
With number like that, and all things being equal, Black students should be being expelled at a rate 10 times higher than White students. It actually look like its the White students who are taking the hit.
Thrilled to see some input, thanks. Now tell me why the article didn’t mention some of those salient points, hmmm? Dya think they are fanning the race flames?
Good afternoon Hamsters. Two mornings with frosts and barely missing 32; this morning it was 38 and everything sparkled with dew instead of frost. Lovely to see sunshine again for a few days after the dismal, but welcome, rainy and gray ones.
Tuesday we made a day trip to the College Station area for a Christmas visit with horse owning friends, and yesterday was filled with the adventure of repairing our plumbing going into the bedroom side septic system that had clogged beyond simple repair on Christmas Eve day. Had we not thought ahead sufficiently when we built the house and insisted on two septic systems and so had one working, we’d have gone to a motel for the duration. Tedtam will find the following especially incredible, as did the plumbers who did the repairs.
They replaced all the outside pipes coming from the two bathrooms on the bedroom side of the house going to the septic tank, which gratefully is still functional after ~32 years. When they saw something suspicious they kept on exposing pipes, and the horror story just kept getting worse. No wonder tree and shrub roots sought water in that area for Lord knows how many years, but then was exacerbated by the drought–it was wet there pretty much continually and likely had been since the house was finished in 1980.
About a year after moving in we made a nasty discovery that slow drainage on that side was caused by the discharge pipe into the septic tank having slipped down and was only halfway covering the opening into the tank. That we fixed ourselves, blissfully ignorant of the the rest of the monstrosity still buried. It had likely slipped because the joint was not sealed–at all.
Fast forward to yesterday, and they found that none of the joints in the entire array had been sealed, merely pipes pushed together that eventually leaked and attracted the roots. Even worse was the discovery that a separate pipe from the master bathtub drain was a 2″ diameter shoved into a 4″ diameter pipe heading to the main discharge complex to the septic tank. No sealing–and how would one do that anyway?–no nothing. The plumbers had never seen anything like this.
In 1980 Fort Bend County was still pretty much rural and did not have county codes or inspections, which the cities did. So it was a free-for-all out in the county. How this happened is hard to understand because the builder did custom homes only and was very fussy about everything else in the house. Presume that the plumbers he used had never installed septic systems, but to not seal joints? All this is moot since the builder has passed away, and the plumbing company that did it is likely out of business–or should be–or the culprits are reitred or dead now. Anyhow, it is fixed, and water flows down all the drains on that side of the house better than it ever has. About $2600 later that is….
Anyway, that’s why I haven’t said much lately.

#59 Adee: What great news, now all the “throne rooms” are fully functional. That ought to be worth at least a champaigne cork pop.
That’s pretty sad, Adee.
There is a very special place in eternity for contractors like that.

Sorry to hear your plumbing horror story, but I always say it is good to have problems that can be fixed just by spending money.
Thank you good folk for your condolences on our distraction from the holiday season’s good tidings and merriment. I think we will toast to the success of the repair, as Bonecrusher suggests, at dinner on New Year’s Eve.
The nearby restaurant we frequent especially on Easter and Thanksgiving for their wonderful buffet has New Year’s Eve dining at 5 pm for those having plans for later in the evening. That would be us, so once we get home the plan is to stay awake until midnight…..

Hubby said that people who go for the lowest bidder don’t always know what they are (not) getting.
That reminds me of a past job we had bid for $5000. It involved cutting open the street, installing the tap and the commercial size water meter, then refilling with stabilized sand as per city ordinance, and then resealing the street as per ordinance. When we didn’t hear from them after a while, I called to see if they were still interested in installing their meter. The lady told me that she had found someone who would do it for $500. “Five hundred dollars! We can’t even buy the materials for that much!” She said the guy said he did this all the time and had a crew and the materials ready. (Like we don’t.) I told her that if he didn’t repair the street properly that she’d be looking at a slump or a hole in the street….about which time she got flustered and hung up on me.
Season’s Greetings!
I never realized this before.

Requirement to consider gay couples for adoption forces Illinois Catholic Charities affiliates to close
Darren # 74, I saw that article in the Chron. At last the Catholic Bishops are speaking up about secularist discrimination against the Church in particular and Christians in general.
Seems to me that other Christian denominations make good allies in this battle with the secularists over the abortion issue, and everbody ought to get together and stand united on this. Numbers matter. And most definitely to politicians.
Turning the other cheek gets carried much too far these days. There are only two cheeks in play. You get smacked on one, then turn the other, and when it gets smacked–as it will–then it’s Katy bar the door time.
